Popular Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, professionally known as Ogogo, has been laid to rest according to Islamic rites in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State.
The 66-year-old actor, who died after battling stage-four cancer, was buried at the Ilaro Pavilion at about 11am on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The burial ceremony was filled with grief and tears as family members, friends and colleagues gathered to bid the veteran actor a final farewell.
Veteran actor Yinka Quadri, who shared a close bond with Ogogo, was visibly emotional and was seen shedding tears during the ceremony.
Several Nollywood stars also attended the burial to honour their late colleague. Among those present were veteran actors Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Muyideen Oladapo and Kazeem Adeoti, alongside actresses Ireti Osayemi, Toyosi Adesanya and Saje Tiologa, among others.
Jide Kosoko had earlier announced on Sunday that Ogogo’s remains had been transported to Ilaro ahead of the burial.
Before his death, Ogogo’s daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, made separate emotional appeals on Instagram after their father’s health deteriorated.
Lima revealed that the family only became aware of the seriousness of his condition about three weeks earlier, noting that his physical appearance had initially not suggested that he was critically ill.
Kira later disclosed that Ogogo was battling stage-four cancer and that the hospital treating him could no longer administer chemotherapy, prompting the family to explore other medical treatment options.
Ogogo’s burial marks the end of a decades-long career in the Yoruba film industry, where he established himself as a respected actor, filmmaker and director.
