Popular Nigerian singer LAX becomes Executive Director of his billionaire father's company, Sifax Logistics

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Damilola Abdul Razaq Afolabi, better known as LAX, is officially the Executive Director of his billionaire father’s company, Sifax Logistics.

Singer LAX reportedly clocked 33 years old yesterday, April 10th, 2026, and by extension, one of his father’s conglomerates, known as Sifax Logistics, celebrated his new age and further confirmed that he is now the executive director in the Instagram post, a development that sparked several reactions online.

LAX gains prominence in the Nigerian music industry after featuring in the hit song “Caro” with Wizkid, which was released on August 20, 2023.

The singer bagged his Bachelor’s Degree from Salford University, Manchester, England and also obtained his Master’s Degree from the same University in August 2014.

After LAX came back from the UK, he met Wizkid through his stylist, Toyin Lawani. He noted that celebrity fashion designer Toyin Lawani introduced him to Wizkid by playing his songs for him. LAX released his debut album in 2018 ‘Rasaking’ featuring Davido, Maleek Berry, Duncan Mighty, and Yemi Alade.

LAX is well known for having hit songs like “Gbefun”, “Panana”, “Ginger”, “Gwara Gwara”, “Lose my Mind”, “Runaway”, “Go Low”, “Options” “Fine Wine”, among others.

LAX while featuring as a guest on the Echo Room audiovisual podcast hosted by Quincy Jonze in the year 2023 revealed that his billionaire dad, Dr Taiwo Afolabi intervened on his contract with Wizkid’s Starboy record when he was at the label.

He said: “When I took the Wiz’s contract to him, my dad no like all those signing things. He dey always feel like if you dey sign, you dey sign your life. And me, when I’m making business decisions, I make sure I asked him first. So, I went to meet him and said, “Daddy this is contract, Wiz wants to sign me.” And he was just like, why not let us do [a] partnership?

“He was like, partnership will be better for you and for him [Wizkid]. Once you guys just partner on that level, so you’re free to, like, do your own thing after. So, that’s what we did.”

Who is LAX Dad, Dr Taiwo Afolabi?

Taiwo Afolabi, Chairman of SIFAX Group, has continued to solidify his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading business moguls, with investments spanning shipping, logistics, hospitality, and aviation.

Over the years, SIFAX Group has evolved into a multinational corporation with a strong presence across key sectors of the economy. Among its notable assets is the Lagos Marriott Hotel Ikeja, a 5-star, 251-room facility located in Ikeja GRA and operated in partnership with Marriott International.

In the aviation sector, the group owns Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHC), a major ground handling firm acquired in 2009, which has since grown into a key player in Nigeria’s aviation industry.

SIFAX Group also maintains significant investments in maritime and port operations, including Terminal C at Tin Can Island Port, as well as facilities in Warri and Banjul. Its logistics infrastructure further includes the SBA Inland Container Terminal in Lagos, supporting cargo movement and trade. He reportedly bought the Warri port for N100M.

Beyond its existing portfolio, the conglomerate is reportedly expanding with new developments, including another hotel project, while also maintaining high-value residential properties such as a notable mansion in Ijebu-Ode.

Dr. Afolabi is widely credited with transforming SIFAX Group from a modest freight forwarding business established in 1988 into a multi-billion naira enterprise, reinforcing his influence in Nigeria’s business landscape.

Also, LAX’s elder brother, Olayinka Afolabi, who is married with a child, also works in one of his father’s conglomerates, Sifax Marine, as the Executive Director. See below;

In January 2026, LAX, a singer and executive director of SIFAX Logistics, confirms to all and sundry that he is no longer single as he shares his engagement video with his fiancée, Ella, stressing that a wedding is incoming. Watch the video below.

As expected, LAX becoming an Executive Director at his billionaire father’s company, SIFAX Logistics, has been trailed with mixed reactions. While some congratulated him, others said he is a “Nepo Baby” and, by extension, was favoured via Nepotism to become a director despite using more than 10years in the Nigerian music industry as an artiste and not a professional in the logistics world.

In conclusion, LAX seems to be the black sheep of the family, while his father, siblings and the majority of his family members are Christians, the singer chose to be a Muslim alongside his mother. He is on the list of Nigerian celebrities who have switched from one religion to another.
