Billionaire daughter Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has sparked reactions online after openly expressing interest in a UK-based Nigerian man reportedly earning $30 million (about ₦41.5 billion) annually.
The buzz began after an Instagram platform, “The School Of Hard Knocks,” known for interviewing millionaires and billionaires, shared a street interview with the man, who revealed that he built his wealth through investment banking. During the conversation, he explained key financial principles, including leverage and the banking multiplier system, while emphasizing that wealth creation often depends on strategic borrowing and smart investments.
The interviewer asked the UK-based Nigerian man, “How did you become wealthy?”
He responded, “”I became wealthy via investment banking.”
The interviewer further asked, “What is the lesson about money that banks don’t want people to know?”
He reacted, “Every pound you deposit in the bank, the bank lends it nine times. That is a bank multiplier. They don’t teach that in school, and I did an MBA. No one told me that the power of wealth is about leverage.”
The interviewer asked him; “Did you ever leverage money?”
The UK-based Nigerian man uttered, “That is the only way to make money. All these properties are someone’s leveraging, someone leverages a restaurant of $100,000 and borrows $900,000.”
The 58-year-old, who disclosed that he grew up in England despite being originally from Nigeria, also shared insights into his background, noting that although his father was a doctor, he carved his own path outside medicine. He described himself as the “black sheep” of his family and stressed that success in today’s world is driven more by knowledge and value than connections.
The interviewer asked, “Do you come from a rich family?”
He uttered, “Not really rich, but my father is a doctor, but I choose not to be a spoiled rich kid by working hard. Two of my brothers ended up in medicine, and I am like the black sheep of the family; everyone has different paths in life.”
He added, “In the business world, what you know is the trend and not who you know. One of the governors of the Bank of England was complaining that his daughter does not have a job that would not have happened 20 years ago due to nepotism, but now, a lot of people can make connections, but if you have nothing of substance behind you, those connections are worthless.”
Offering advice to young people, he encouraged them to think long-term, highlighting the power of compounding and the importance of making investments that future generations will benefit from.
In his words, “The US has only been around for 300 years, and look at what they have achieved. When the Queen died, she had been alive for a third of the existence of the US, so get out there, the world is big. Compounding helps you. Whatever you do now, the investment you make now, your children will never say you made a bad investment.”
Reacting to the viral video, which has garnered over 3 million impressions, 33-year-old DJ Cuppy took to the comment section to express admiration for the businessman. Despite her own affluent background, the 33-year-old revealed she was impressed and interested in meeting him.
“I need to have a meeting with Uncle please 🇳🇬🥺,” she wrote, a comment that has since fueled conversations across social media.
