A 29-year-old man has reportedly been arrested after allegedly working 11 remote jobs for US-based companies at the same time while earning about $925,000 (approximately N1.2 billion) annually.
The man reportedly operated the jobs while living across Italy, Spain and France, allegedly keeping each employer unaware that he was simultaneously working for multiple companies.
However, reports indicate that the sheer number of jobs was not what led to his arrest. Investigators allegedly accused him of using deceptive methods to secure and maintain the positions, including making false statements and improperly handling confidential information and trade secrets.
The case has drawn attention to the growing trend of “overemployment,” a practice in which remote workers secretly hold multiple full-time jobs and collect several salaries simultaneously.
While working more than one job is not necessarily illegal, authorities reportedly allege that the 29-year-old crossed the line through the methods he used to obtain the positions and manage sensitive company information.
The case has since sparked online debate, with many people questioning how anyone could realistically manage 11 full-time remote jobs at once without raising suspicion.
