Popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has been lost to the cold hands of death. He died at the age of 40.
Popular Nigerian blogs, Goldmyne Africa and Tosin Silverdam, confirmed that the actor died today, May 12, 2026, as a result of cancer at a Lagos hospital.
Alexx Ekubo’s prolonged absence from social media had sparked concern among fans and followers, with his last Instagram post dating back to December 30, 2024.
The Nollywood star is widely known in the Nigerian movie industry for his acting talent and is also recognized for his close friendship with fellow actor IK Ogbonna.
Alexx Ekubo was previously in a relationship with Fancy Acholonu before their romance eventually hit a rough patch for reasons that were never publicly disclosed.
In August 2021, Fancy Acholonu officially announced their breakup and called off their wedding, which had been scheduled to hold in November of the same year.
At the time, Fancy Acholonu stated that she needed to “live her truth” and focus on her personal happiness following the split.
She later hinted that the breakup was driven by private issues, also suggesting that feelings of betrayal played a role in the decision to end the relationship.
Before their eventual split, the former couple had gotten engaged in Los Angeles on May 9, 2021, an announcement that sparked widespread excitement among fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry.
