In this article, Catalystng.com will discuss extensively on Aliko Dangote’s son-in-law, Jamil Mohammed Abubakar who is now in Charge of Logistics at the family $33billion empire.
On April 20, 2026, the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, released an official statement announcing the appointment of his son-in-law, Jamil Mohammed Abubakar, as Managing Director of Infrastructure & Logistics at the Dangote Group.
The appointment is seen as part of a broader, family-influenced succession strategy within the conglomerate, following the elevation of Dangote’s daughters into key leadership roles.
With over 14 years of experience spanning aviation and governance, Abubakar is expected to spearhead operational efficiency and drive expansion into new infrastructure assets.
Industry observers note that Dangote’s approach reflects a wider trend across Africa, where major business empires are increasingly consolidating leadership within family structures as they pursue long-term growth targets, including the group’s ambition to reach a $100 billion valuation by 2030.
Abubakar is married to Fatimah Dangote. Their high-profile wedding in 2018 was held across multiple cities, including Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos, with a grand finale at Eko Hotel & Suites on March 23, 2018. The union also links him to his father, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar.

Effective April 20, 2026, the appointment places Jamil Mohammed Abubakar in charge of the Dangote Group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform, a key component of its Vision 2030 drive to develop pan-African logistics networks.
In his new role, he will report directly to Aliko Dangote and lead efforts to expand into new port and infrastructure assets across Nigeria and the broader continent.
Professionally, Jamil Mohammed Abubakar began his career as a pilot and brings over 14 years of experience in commercial aviation, having worked with IRS Airlines, Azman Air, NG Eagle and XE Jets. He previously served as Chief Pilot at Azman Air and NG Eagle. He is married to Fatimah Dangote, the billionaire’s third and youngest daughter and a senior executive within the Dangote Group.
Their 2018 wedding attracted prominent political and business figures, including former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Bill Gates, former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, and Nigeria’s current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Abubakar’s appointment follows a February reshuffle within the group that saw Dangote’s daughters assume strategic leadership roles, reinforcing a broader succession plan. Halima Dangote was named Group Executive Director, overseeing the family office and international operations, while Fatimah Dangote now leads commercial operations in the oil and gas segment. Mariya Dangote is responsible for commercial strategy across the cement and food divisions.

These changes place key segments of the business under family leadership as Aliko Dangote strengthens oversight of an empire valued at approximately $33.2 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, while positioning logistics as a major driver of future growth across Africa.
The group, with diversified interests in cement, fertiliser, sugar, and refining, is pursuing a target valuation of $100 billion by 2030. This ambition has prompted increased investments in ports, industrial corridors, and trade infrastructure to support exports and intra-African commerce.
Part of the refinery’s distribution network is linked to Dangote’s half-brother, Sayyu Dantata, whose company operates over 800 retail outlets, making it a key downstream beneficiary of the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery—one of the largest in the world, with a capacity of about 650,000 barrels per day.
The refining business has recently gained momentum amid tightening global fuel markets, positioning the group at the centre of evolving supply dynamics. Abubakar’s new role is expected to support infrastructure expansion while enhancing operational efficiency, capacity utilisation, and automation across existing assets.
Dangote, in the appointment letter, wrote, “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jamil Mohammed Abubakar as Managing Director, Infrastucture & Logistics, effective 20th April 2026. He will report directly to me.
As we pursue our Vision 2030 agenda to build a scalable, pan-African ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform, Mr Abubakar will lead the Group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform, driving the development of new port and infrastructure opportunities across Nigeria and Africa
