English Premier League side, Chelsea FC have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior with immediate effect today, April 22nd, 2026.
Famous Italian Sports writer, Fabrizio Romano, made this known today to all and sundry via his Instagram page of 42.8million followers. He had earlier disclosed in the early hours of today that the Chelsea hierarchy are deciding internally on Liam Rosenior’s situation, whether to continue or sack him.
This is coming after Chelsea Football Club lost to Premier League side Brighton and Holve Albion football club last night, April 21st, 2026, by 3-0 in their game 34 of the campaign.
Chelsea’s struggles under head coach Liam Rosenior have reached a historic low, with the club enduring five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring a single goal, the worst run in 114 years.
The latest setback came in a heavy 3-0 loss to Brighton, intensifying pressure on Rosenior following earlier defeats to Newcastle United, Everton, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
The goalless streak marks the first time since November 1912 that Chelsea have failed to find the net in five straight top-flight matches. During this run, the team has conceded a total of 11 goals, highlighting both attacking and defensive concerns.
Reacting after the Brighton defeat, Rosenior described the performance as “indefensible,” openly criticising his side’s lack of intensity and admitting it represents the lowest point of his managerial career.
The disappointing form has seen Chelsea slip to seventh place on the league table, putting their hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League spot in serious jeopardy as the season progresses.
Recall Chelsea officially appointed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach on January 6, 2026, handing him a six-and-a-half-year contract that runs until 2032.
Rosenior took over from Enzo Maresca after making the move from French side Strasbourg, a club also under the BlueCo ownership group.
In conclusion, Calum McFarlane will be 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 until the end of the season. The Under 21 coach was already leading the team when Maresca left the club in January, he will do the same now until June, 2026.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will look for new manager from next season 2026/2027 with an internal process to start today.
