Popular Nollywood actress Ini-Dima Okojie welcomes first child after battle with fibroids

Popular Nollywood actress Ini-Dima Okojie is one of the most excited women on earth as she welcomes her first child after battle with fibroids.

Ini-Dima Okojie took to her verified page on the photo and video sharing platform, Instagram today, April 22nd, 2026 to share the latest development with all and sundry.

Recall that in the year 2024, Ini-Dima Okojie who is well known for her role in “Blood Sisters” alongside Nancy Isime, as well as her role as Segilola married to Tobi Bakre “Adewale Fernandez” in Funke Akindele’s cinematic creation “Behind The Scenes” opens up on her journey with fibroids.

The thespian revealed that just three years after undergoing invasive surgery to remove fibroids, the symptoms have returned, once again affecting her health.

In a recent update shared with her fans on Instagram, the actress described the recurrence as disheartening, noting that she is now exploring a more holistic approach to managing and shrinking the fibroids.

She acknowledged the emotional impact of the setback, admitting that the development has been difficult to process, even as she made it clear that she is not considering another surgical procedure at this time.

The actress also used the opportunity to stress the importance of creating awareness around fibroids, especially among Black women, noting that the condition is often under-discussed despite its serious effects.

Sharing her story, Ini said “My journey with fibroids isn’t over. I recently learned they’ve returned. If you’ve been following me, you would probably know that before the end of 2020, I had a myomectomy, which is an invasive surgery to take out fibroids. The surgery was successful; my doctor removed every single fibroid and I healed well. It’s been three years since I underwent the surgery, but unfortunately, the fibroids are back. It’s very disheartening and it hasn’t been the easiest couple of months but I’m okay. I’ve come to terms with it, and I definitely don’t want to do another surgery anytime soon. This time I want to take a holistic approach towards shrinking the fibroids.

“I just thought it was important to share and it wasn’t easy. I remember the first time I shared my story and how impactful it was, and many people shared their stories with me. Too many black women go through this and it wasn’t being talked about enough and it’s still not being talked about enough. I don’t even know if a remedy is being found for it. I’m going to be paying for 20 women to get their screening done; it’s very important,” she said.

The actress, however, promised to sponsor scans for 20 women as her own way of raising awareness for the condition. “To every woman dealing with fibroids, I want you to know I see you. It’s not an easy journey, but my hope is that we can change the narrative and find a real and permanent remedy for fibroids,” the actress added.

Note that Ini Dima-Okojie tied the knot with Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong in a colourful, star-studded traditional wedding held on May 21, 2022, in Lagos. The ceremony beautifully blended both cultures, with the bride representing her Edo heritage while the groom showcased Efik traditions. The celebration was followed by a white wedding ceremony attended by several celebrities.

In the Instagram post today, Ini-Dima Okojie stated that becoming a mother is a miracle and a privilege after her prolonged battle with fibroids. She went on to give thanks to God as she turns to a mother.

She wrote, “There are moments when words feel too small for what God has done. This is one of those moments. In quiet ways, in unseen ways, God has been writing a story only He could tell. A story of grace. Of love. Of perfect timing. God has been so kind. So faithful. So intentional. And now, my heart is holding a love I have never known before.

I get to be a mother🥹 What a miracle. What a privilege. What a calling. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” …Jeremiah 1:5 Every day, I am in awe. Every day, I whisper thank you. My body is changing, my heart is expanding, and my life will never be the same again. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank You Jesus, for trusting me with this gift.🤎 #AChocolateLoveStory #AChocolateLoveBaby.”

Studies on myomectomy outcomes, including research referenced by the University of California, San Francisco, show that fibroids can return within a few years in up to 20 percent of women.

The likelihood of recurrence is higher among younger women and those who had multiple fibroids at the time of surgery.

Myomectomy focuses on removing existing fibroids while preserving the uterus, meaning it does not stop new ones from developing.

In addition, any small fibroids that may have been left behind during the procedure can grow larger over time.
